Kaitlyn, the gymnast!

About a month ago we decided to have a trial lesson at Sunrise Gymnastics Academy because the YMCA just wasn't cutting it anymore. While the Y is great for letting little ones sample lots of different activities (which we did), they aren't super organized when it comes to instruction. So, now Kaitlyn takes gymnastics at Sunrise once a week and we love it so far. She as improved so much in just the few lessons she's had. Sunrise somehow keeps the kids busier during class, so they are practicing more and standing around less. Kaitlyn has always been very cautious when it comes to anything physical...learning to walk, riding a bike, playgrounds, bouncy houses, gymnastics, etc...but she has really come out of her "bubble" lately. She's getting better at cart wheels and handstands and she walks on the balance beam (the low one) all by herself forwards and backwards. And she's more open to trying different activities now too, something she definitely wasn't interested in last time she took gymnastics at the Y. I'm sure some of it is age...she's more mature now and therefore less scared maybe? But I also think Sunrise has a way of making her feel more confident. Not to mention that there are usually only 3 kids in her class so she gets lots of individual attention. She really likes gymnastics now too, which is great because our last experience was NOT fun...at all. She also likes to go upstairs to watch "the big girls" do gymnastics before/after her class. Last week we got to see one of the teams practice and they were really good! I'm anxious to see how long Kaitlyn wants to stick with this and how far she advances. Sure, she probably won't be an Olympian, but it is fun to think about going to gymnastics meets...lol...I know, I'm a little ahead of myself! For now, we'll just enjoy the perks of taking gymnastics at a young age...burning of energy, getting exercise, learning discipline and hard work, gaining confidence, etc...all good things.

In other news, Kindergarten talk has begun!! Registration forms are filled out. Next month we turn them in and schedule her screening. I've been reading the current Kindergarten newsletters from her school, just to get an idea of what it's like...what types of activities they are doing, what sight words they're working on, events, etc. It's all very exciting stuff!! And she'll get to go to Safety Town this summer too!! This is going to be such an exciting year...or 13.  Class of 2026!! :o)
