First Grade Cards!

Yesterday was a very exciting school day! The girls had their Halloween parade and parties AND they got their first quarter grade cards! I'm happy to report that both Kaitlyn and Aundrea did excellent! Being a new-to-school-parent brings a lot to learn, especially when grade cards have totally changed recently. All of my friends are saying the same thing..."What exactly does this grade card mean, then?!" When I was little you got P, S or U and then A, B, C, etc. in the higher grades. Now the grades are 4, 3, 2, 1 with 4 being the best (like an A but it means mastery of the skill). They were scored in 11 areas and guess what? Kaitlyn got 11 4's!! That's like straight A's...but it's straight 4's...you see how this is confusing? LOL. Aundrea did very well too...8 4's and 3 3's!! We are very proud of both of them and we even took them out for ice cream cones after school to celebrate their FIRST ever grade cards! Way to go, kids!! One quarter down, only 51 more quarters to go! Ha!

Mommy and Daddy got to join them at school yesterday for their Halloween parade. They are supposed to march outside around the school, but since it's been raining for like 48 hours straight, they had to do the parade inside. It was really neat how they did it. The kindergartners started the parade (Kaitlyn's class first, then Aundrea's) and they weave in and out of EVERY classroom, picking up each class/grade as they go so the parade gets longer and longer with each room they go through. The only problem was that the kids were walking SOOOOO FAST I couldn't even get a picture of them! But I did get a quick video. :o)  After the parade, we headed for their classrooms. We weren't sure if we could go right in or not, so after waiting in the hallway for a little bit, we joined in the fun. I went to Kaitlyn's class and Wayne went to Aundrea's. They had a snack and played a game (Halloween bingo) and before we knew it school was over and it was time to pack up. Kaitlyn raised her hand (for a long time, I might add) and finally her teacher came to her to see what she needed. She had to go potty. It was so cute watching that little, skinny arm held up in the air. She waited so very patiently for Mrs. Snyder to see what she needed...where is that patience at home?! ;o)

Trick or treat was supposed to be last night, however the weather (did I mention the never-ending rain and wind?) caused it to be rescheduled! Everyone was talking about if trick or treat would happen or not yesterday. Thankfully, they rescheduled it for this weekend so we'll still be able to get lots of candy! Candy tax is in effect!!
