This has been one heck of a winter! The Toledo area has set a new record for snowfall in a season, demolishing the record set in 1978 (year of the blizzard) and it's been all people are talking about for the last few months. When will winter end? Are we going to get more snow? Ugh, another snow storm predicted? Will we ever see above freezing temps again? The answer is YES! The last week has been mostly above freezing and the foot(ish) of snow that was in our yard is almost completely gone! FINALLY! Any day it's near 40 degrees, the girls are asking to ride bikes/scooters or play with chalk outside because "it's so warm out." A few days ago we took our first trip of the year to the zoo...because it was sunny and 45 out! Heat wave! This winter was so bad that I've caught myself saying "If it's close to 30 degrees, it's warm enough to run outside"...that's pretty bad when 30 is 'warm'!
Speaking of running, tomorrow is my first race of the year! It's not so much a 'race' for me as it is a 9.3 mile long run with other people wearing number bibs on their chests. I'm definitely not 'racing' it...I'm basically hoping to survive. :o) There is a kids run that both Kaitlyn and Aundrea are excited to participate in too. Anyways, this run is mostly a training run for the Glass City Half Marathon, which is in 5 weeks. I have totally sucked at training this year...for whatever reason, the motivation hasn't been there, I feel like we've been extremely busy and running has just taken a backseat to so many other things. But at the very least, GCHM will likely motivate me to get ready for my 'running season'...you know, the warmer months. ;o)
Anyways, our whole family is ready for spring, warm weather, longer days, cooking out and playing outside. We've exhausted all indoor activities this winter and are ready to get some fresh air and exercise. Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate and bring Spring now!
