WARNING: This is going to be long! Sorry, there is just so much to tell! :o)
Well, we got up at 3:45am on Saturday morning, put Kaitlyn in her car seat and were on the road at 4:07am. Kaitlyn was wide awake for about 45 minutes...going ppbbsstt, ba ba ba, etc. Thankfully she fell back asleep! We stopped at McD's around 9am to change/feed her...we were in the bathroom and some older woman felt the need to tell me that "someone pissed on the seat" in her stall...lol! Thanks for sharing lady! Anyways, we arrived in Mackinaw around 10:15am and we weren't meeting the family 'til 11, so we played the baby-card and checked into our hotel early (thanks for the idea Amanda)! We had a balcony and a really nice view of Mackinaw Island! We let Kaitlyn crawl around on the bed (I think she was sick of being in her car seat and needed to expell some energy) and then my Dad, Marti and Uncle Paul showed up and we went to lunch. Then we caught the Ferry Boat over to Mackinaw Island, where we did lots of walking around! We HAD to buy some fudge and get Kaitlyn a Mackinaw t-shirt, of course! And we checked out all the cute Victorian style houses, little shops, horse carriages, etc. We checked out the Grande Hotel...very nice...they actually have a sign outside that says "Guests Only"...anyone who enters the hotel will be charged a $15 fee! It also said that after 6pm, appropriate dress was required...dresses for women and ties for men! We also saw 2 couples getting married there...on OUR wedding anniversary...shouldn't August 9th be reserved just for us?! Anyways, we were all surprised at how cold it was...mid-August and it was like 65 degrees! So, we all had our sweatshirts on and Kaitlyn was tucked in her stroller with a blanky! We hiked over to Arch Rock, which was right on the coast and it was freezing and so windy! Bad parents...we didn't pack socks in the diaper bag (who would have thought we'd need them in August?!) and Kaitlyn's little toes were so cold, but the blanket kept blowing off! We really hope she doesn't get sick from our little August/Winter excursion! So, Arch Rock was cool...literally...then we headed back to the Ferry Boat. While we were waiting Kaitlyn saw people flying kites and absolutely loved them! She would babble and laugh at them up in the sky...it was so cute! Finally, we get back on the boat (nice and warm) and there is a guy on a stretcher in there! Yikes! So...it's now like 8pm and Kaitlyn hasn't slept a wink all day and we still needed to eat dinner! While we were waiting for a table Kaitlyn was the waiting-room entertainment...flirting with everyone, bouncing on Grandpa and going pppbbbsssttt...everyone waiting thought she was very cute...me me me, I'm the proud Mommy! I had this super yummy crab meat salad...mmm! Of course, once it came is when Kaitlyn got fussy (go figure, no nap) so Wayne and I took turns wolfing down our food and walking around with her. We said good-bye to Dad, Marti and Uncle Paul and then went back to the hotel to crash...I put Kaitlyn down and she was out in like 2 minutes...and we were out a few minutes after that!
Sunday morning we hit the hotel breakfast...if you want to call it that...just some muffins and juice...and then we were back on the road again. Wayne decided he wanted to take 23 part of the way home, instead of 75...that was much more scenic (it drove along the coast), but WAY out of the way...it took us forever! We finally got to Frankenmuth and stopped at the Birch Run outlets...hooray for shopping! We didn't get much...I found a shirt and got Kaitlyn a couple outfits for winter at the Carter's outlet. Then we ate dinner at this place called Tony's...OMG, such large portions! Their BLT came with 1 pound of bacon on it...talk about a heart attack waiting to happen! So, Wayne and I split a burrito...it was huge...seriously like a foot long and 5 inches wide! So, between the two of us, we only ate about 2/3 of it. We really wanted to get ice cream...the banana split is made with a 1/2 gallon of ice cream...but we were too full! Kaitlyn ended up sleeping most of the day in the car on Sunday, so I was a little worried about putting her to bed once we got home, but she zonked right out again...I think we wore her out! But she was so good the whole trip...I'm so thankful she's such an easy going baby!
This morning was the usual laundry/cleaning/catching up from the weekend around the house. I put Kaitlyn down for a nap this morning and go into check on her and there she is, standing up staring at me again! I said "Aren't you supposed to be sleeping right now?" Too cute...but it makes me worry that she's getting around now...we can't leave her alone for a minute or she'll be into something! Yikes!
Well, I have lots of pics to put on Shutterfly from our trip! Enjoy! :o)
